The price of an iPhone varies in US and Canada according to state and local taxes. In the US, the same phone is US$699 (US$765.41 in Los Angeles with state and local taxes) – around 12.5 per cent cheaper. ¾ An iPhone 11, 64GB is $1,199 in Australia (US$875.18 at exchange rates sourced on September 13). In 2017, Australia was the 25th cheapest country in the world to buy an Apple iPhone 7 (Aussie dollar US80 cents). Similarly in 2018, Australia was also the 4th cheapest country in the world to buy an Apple iPhone – the iPhone 8 (Aussie dollar US71 cents). ¾ As noted, at this time last year, Australia was the 4th cheapest country to buy an iPhone XR, 64GB (Aussie dollar US68.60 cents). The latest results add to concerns that the Aussie dollar is perhaps a little too firm at present, underpinned by the high price of iron ore. ¾ According to the CommSec iPhone index, Australia is the 18th cheapest country in the world (of 51 nations) to buy an Apple iPhone 11 64GB in US dollar terms.
